Houston Upper Elementary School Library
Each class in grades 3-5 comes to the library once a week. While in the library, students check books out, take AR tests, and participate in a variety of educational activities.
The Houston Upper Elementary Library has a selection of over 6,300 books for students to choose from. Students are allowed to check books out for a period of two weeks. If at the end of two weeks the student is not finished with their book, they may renew the book for an additional two week period as long as they bring the book back into the library to do so. Any student with an outstanding fine or overdue book will not be allowed to check books out until all overdue books are returned and/or fines are paid in full. Overdue books are assessed a fine of five cents a day. Fines for damaged books will be assessed based on the severity of the damage. Lost books must be paid for in full.
The library houses eight computers which students are allowed to use for AR testing. Students may also use the computers to access the online catalogue in order to locate books within the library. The students must comply with district acceptable use policies as outlined in the school handbook while using the computers.
